January 2003
Well these emails
have finally been committed to the internet ! These mails
are just some of the highlights that were sent late
November to the end of December, which were not already
included on the November
and December Email pages - Bob.
Hello Do you have any photographs
or bubble gum card of John "Johnny" Corr
from Exeter City FC 1967 to 1972??
Please let me know and Thanks!
Gina
Well I'm not sure
there even is one I'm afraid, but I'll add Johnny's name
to the site. If anyone else knows of a picture I'll pass
the information on.
NB- thanks to Phil
Broom, two team photos that include Johnny Corr, are now
added to the Exeter page
In 1970 we moved from the
USA to Goodmayes, Essex. Our neighbor was a
young talented soccer player by the name of Dennis
Burnett (Millwall). (Our
families) became very good friends.
Over the years we tried to keep in touch, when he
played for the St. Louis All Stars he visited our
home and our children were able to be friends once
again.
Unfortunately, once he left Norway we seemed to lose
contact. Now I have two young grandsons aged 10
and 12 who both play soccer, the youngest boy being
on a travel team.
When I mention Dennis to them they say they would
love to have a write up on him especially as he was a
"family" friend. I have found a
picture of the 1970-71 team and Dennis is in that,
but there wasn't a write up on him.
Any information would be gratefully accepted.
Yours truly
Barbara Henry
I would need some help
here, can anyone send any information I could use on the
site ? But by way of consolation I have updated the Millwall page to include on the 1970-71
squad. Pringle and Fissler's book, 'Where are they now?'
says that Dennis has run a painting and decorating
business in Brighton for the last 14 years - but this was
written in 1996.

Subject:
The 1974 Charity Shield Liverpool v Leeds United.
This is the first game I ever attended. Do you have
any info on how I could obtain a video of the game ?
It was televised on the BBC, I believe. Grateful of any
assistance.
Robert Woolley
What a great first
match to see ! I have to admit I've never seen
it for sale on video. The places I trust for buying
things such as this are listed at: http://ds.dial.pipex.com/bob.dunning/links though like I say I'm not aware
of it being available.
Any attempts at making
this sort of thing available over the internet in mpeg
form is quashed quicker that it takes to say 'FIFA
Copyright', so that avenue is almost certainly closed,
too.
Does anyone have a
better answer than this, perhaps you know of somewhere
the video is available ?

Dear Bob,
First of all, I love your site (thank you- Bob),
having been a Chelsea fan since I was 12 (1986). Its
great to go back into their history. However, I was
wondering if you may be able to help me at all. I'm
trying to find a photograph of the blue R
reg coach which took chelsea to the FA cup final in
1970.
I've tried www.google.co.uk image search. The reason for
this is that I have an unusual piece of chelsea
memorabilia. Its a piece of black linen with the
words CHELSEA F.C,WEMBLEY printed in
white, and was placed in the destination window on the
top of the front of the coach.
I'd like to find a
photograph so that I can place it in the frame
alongside the nameplate.
Your help would be
greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely
Richard Lehane
How brilliant. I couldn't help
can anyone else ?
Bob, I am trying to
find out if Martin Peters was playing for Spurs or
WHU when he played on the 66 WC team
Thanks Neil
Harlock
Martin
Peters was a West Ham
United player in the '66 World Cup. He moved to Spurs in
March 1970.
Hello,
I'm
a 36 year old fan of English football. I also support
my home town team NAC Breda. During season 83-84 Bob
Latchford (Birmingham City) played for us and
achieved hero-status in Breda.
As I am doing a special project on him and his career
I'd like to ask you if you know for which clubs he
played and how many appearances he made for those
clubs.
I hope to hear from you,
Yours
sincerely,
Hans
Baelemans Breda, The
Netherlands
All I have for him are
English League games totals. Briefly, he played for
Birmingham City 158 English League games + 2 as
substitute / scoring 68 goals, Everton 235+1 / 106,
Swansea City 87 / 35, (Breda), Coventry City 11+1 / 2,
Lincoln City 14+1 / 2, Newport County 20 / 5.
Hi Bob I have a number of 'Charles
Buchan Football Monthly's from approx late
50's to mid 60's. Any idea of value? Fair condition. Or contact name as
you seem to be the guru.
Regards
Dave
Walton
I like the idea of
being a guru, does this require wearing orange sackcloth
or white robes, I wonder, I guess it's optional. In fact,
I am asked this question very often (See FAQ), but I don't really offer a
straight answer (hmm that's very like a guru !).
Depending on the condition and various things like
whether or not you have complete runs of years or if
someone very famous is on the cover, 60's magazines do
sell for up to 2-3 pounds each, sometimes even more. It's
not often that I see 50's magazines for sale, but they
will be worth more still.
Also a dealer would
get more for them than you would be able to sell to a
dealer, natrually.
What I recommend is that you go to www.ebay.co.uk put 'Charles Buchan' in the search and see what
they are fetching there. That will also be the place you
would get the best price if selling them, though sending
the sold copies is a hassle.
Whatever you do - don't just sling them out for
re-cycling !
See http://ds.dial.pipex.com/bob.dunning/links.htm#commercial
N.B. If you want to see
electronic versions the magazine, visit Football Monthly Archives.
David replied...
Thanks for
info - Guru. You wear what you want. Maybe a closet
druid by your response ?? After a bit of tracking I
can sense your lack of straight answer. Understand it
as well ! Price is dependant
on the beholder etc blah blah.
Bit despondent as I have held onto these mags for 20
years dragging them around various house moves only
to to be told worth is £100 max. No retirement
package then !! If (I) ever get
involved in charity "doos" I may consider
relinquishing collection in the hope they will raise
3 x times etc.
Thanks for
your info & time. Appreciate it. I do regret now
cutting up the '59 Cup final edition as a kid for a
school project whilst living in Luton.
Oh well - I shall just have to rely on my Maxwell
pension & Ratner shares. Without them I don't
know where my Sinclair C5 taxi fleet business would
be.
Regards Dave
Well I guess it is a
matter of perspective, because as far as football
memorabilia go, these magazines have held their value
better than almost anything else available, other than
really hard to get hold of stuff like World Cup related
things, winners medals, and shirts or boots of famous
stars.
But you are right
in that 1) a charity do should boost the generosity of
the buyer and 2) there's no retirement package -
just yet anyway, who knows they may go further up
in value. I doubt they'll ever truely justify their
storage costs, no !
Ommmmm.
Bob, Can
you remember a programme on TV called, 'All in the
Game' ? Filmed at Ashton Gate the object was to
find the most skillful side. I seem to remember
Bristol City winning it a lot. It was done late
Seventies I think, and ran about 4 series.
Steve
Appleyard
No, I don't, but I
would love to hear from anyone who can expand on this
nugget of information.
Bob, Can you tell me if Topical Times 2002 Annual is or
was published, as it does not appear in any major
book shops.
Thanks,
Brian Smith
Well the most recent
edition I have is the Year 2000, can anyone help ?
Hello Mr.
Dunning,
Have you got an interview with Johan Cruyff from the
early years of his career? I´m searching for that
for a project for my school: I study Journalism in
Tilburg, The Netherlands. I hope you can help me, I
can´t find a thing on the internet.
Thanks
in advance,
Tjanne
Hartman, Schijndel, The
Netherlands.
Well have a look at Johan
Cruyff and I've
one or two links at Ajax . There is suprisingly little about ex-players on
the internet. Good luck with the project.
Hello mr.
bob, Can I have the text of song "Make Me Smile
(Come Up and See Me) "? This is a song of the
film "Best".
Thank you very much
Stefania
Well as anyone of my
age would be able to tell you the song is by Steve Harley
and Cockney Rebel. I found the lyrics at:
http://www.lyricsmania.com/soundtracks/fullmonty/004.html
When Big
John Hickton (Middlesbrough) left the Boro in
the early 70s, which team did he join?
Many thanks
Tony Noble
Well I answered that
though he had a loan spell at Hull City at the back end
of his career, he didn't play for another English League
club after Boro, so he either retired, went into
non-League or went abroad. Since then I've found BoroBarmy.com - Boro Legends -
John Hickton,
which says he was transfered to Fort Lauderdale of the
USA.
Does anyone know the
answers to these queries ?
Hello Bob, When was
the last issue of the 'Charles Buchan Monthly'
magazine ? - Martin Westby
Peter Shilton scored one goal in
his career, against who? - Halvard Holm
Answer:
see The Judge
I
am trying to find out what number Eusebio wore for his
Benfica club team. Your help will be extremely
helpful. Thank you. - John Dias
And
finally,
Bob, I don't know if
you can help. I am trying to find out of whom John
Roberts was talking about when he said that that
person "was not fit to lace George
Best's
drinks"
Any ideas?
Andy Barker
I have to admit, rightly or
wrongly, that last one made me laugh, though I don't know
the answer. And so to wind up for this month, here's one
query that did get answered, even if it wasn't by me...
Hi,
Im Norwegian and would like to ask you a simple
question Ive received from a friend. I cannot
answer it and hope that you can help me: Which
player(s) has/have played in FA-cup finals in the
70`s, 80`s and 90`s and for which club(s)?
Best wishes Tony Liavik
I
wasn't entirely sure myself, in fact I didn't think there
was anyone. I know Dennis Wise played in the 80s, 90s and
00s with Wimbledon and Chelsea.
http://www.innotts.co.uk/~soccer/facup/finals.htm has a list of FA Cup
Finalists, which I thought Tony could study.
But he didn't need to because he had already found out
the answer was David O`Leary
of Arsenal. Well he's not a 70-71 player anyway...
