March 2002

Teofilo Cubillas (Star Players of Mexico 1970) Appeared in the March 2002 'FourFourTwo' magazine (no.91) in an interview with Jim Drewett. When asked what he's up to now, Teofilo answered :

I am an accountant, but I never go into an office. I also teach soccer in the USA and Peru. I have my own soccer clinic and I love to be with the kids. My own children also play soccer. I brought my son Christian to play a trial for Alianza, but it is hard for him because the people expect so much because of his name. I have another son who is training with Porto. He is doing OK. But you never know, maybe in Porto they expect the same thing. You know, the son of Cubillas is coming. He is called Teofilo.

Stan Bowles (Manchester City) And talking of 'FourFourTwo' magazine, the March 2002 (no.91) edition also marked the beginning of a column Stan is doing for the magazine. In the two he has done so far, there's lots of interesting looking back to his playing days, which are worth a read.

Carlos Alberto (Santos) In the April 2002 edition of 'FourFourTwo' magazine (no.92), Carlos Alberto Torres is interviewed by Neil Billingham. Carlos is still a coach. Though I'm not 100 per cent sure of his present club, he has apparantly coached Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, Nigeria and Oman. Carlos said ' I love coaching and working in football.I couldn't live without football. Just being on the training field gives me enormous satisfaction.'

Neil Kaufman here from Joburg, South Africa again .As the Historian of Leyton Orient FC I have located three players from the 70s

Gerry Queen (Crystal Palace) former Scottish player, C Palace and Orient is now coaching at a Soccer Clinic in Florida, USA

Tony Paris - a reserve player only is also coaching in the States after playing and Coaching throughout Europe

Terry Mancini (Orient) is a Director of a local Sports Tours Co. and is often in the Cape, South Africa on golf tours.

Oh my book on former Orient players 1904-2001 is due out in April 2002 to be published by Tempus Publishing in Stroud.

Requests

Barrie Fairbrother (Orient)   I'm trying to locate the Orient and Millwall start Barrie Fairbrother from the 60s and 70s. Last I heard he was in Australia but I cannot locate him there  (from Neil Kaufman)

Mike Trebilcock (Portsmouth)

Hi,
I went to school in Cornwall with a young lad called Mike Trebilcock who became a professional footballer and who, as you will know, scored two goals in the Cup Final.
I heard that he went to Australia to live.  Have you any idea where he is now?
Many thanks,
Best Wishes

Alfie Conn (Rangers)

Hello Bob , Could you please help me trace Alfie Conn . The last article I seen about him in a Tottenham Hotspur magazine mentioned he was managing a public house somewhere in the Glasgow area.

Alfie was a footballing idol of mine and I have his name on the back of my Tottenham Hotspur shirt . If I knew where he was I would like to send it to him to display in his bar. It would be a reminder to him of his time at Spurs and a token of the great memories he has left me with .

I would greatly appreciate any help that you could provide me with.Incidentally I met Alfie at a Spurs player of the year award back in the 70's. (From Michael Morris)

N.B. In October 2002, Michael wrote this email to me

Thank you for forwarding (a Bob 70-71 website visitor's) details to me , he was able to provide me with a contact number for Alfie . This enabled me to speak to him by phone this morning and he was pleased to accept my Spurs shirt with his name on it ,I will post it tomorrow . He also mentioned that he recently attended a Spurs Dinner Event and was thrilled with the  reception he was given. It was marvellous speaking to the King of White Hart Lane and I would like to thank you for making this possible through the medium of your website .   Regards, Mike Morris
