Brian update : Football365 has the following piece on Brian Kidd's appointment at Leeds BRIAN KIDD is relishing a fresh challenge after agreeing to become Leeds United's director of youth development. The former Blackburn manager, who helped develop Manchester United's current crop of England stars at Old Trafford, is hoping to make a similar impact at Elland Road. Kidd, who has been recharging his batteries since parting company with Blackburn in the autumn, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ''I'm delighted to be taking up such an exciting challenge.'' Roger inspired open awe in some listeners, and in the bits I heard, was giving his opinion on who should play for England in Euro 2000. F.A.Cup Coverage Well done to Chelsea for winning the Cup for the third time - they were, of course the Cup holders for thier first time at the beginning of the 1970-71 season. In the U.K. I.T.V. had sole terrestial rights to the television coverage causing the BBC's 'Grandstand' to be cancelled for one of it's first times since 70-71 due to lack of sport to cover (Channel 4 had the Test cricket) ! Ron Atkinson was on hand to give expert opinion, and did a good job by all accounts.Terry Venables (QPR) was in the studio which he had every right to be as an both an ex-Chelsea player, and one of the few people to match Gianluca Vialli's achievement of winning the competition both as a player and a manager (Kenny Dalglish (Celtic squad), and George Graham have done so also). See Serious Sportz - Soccer. 15 May, 2000 Glentoran Greats Whilst discovering all about the Irish League I had a good look around their official site (Glentoran Football Club, Belfast, Northern Ireland) and discovered a couple of great stories from players in the World of Soccer Stars album, well worth a read. Terry Conroy (Stoke City) was the hero of the club's 1966 Cup victory, and Tommy Jackson (Everton) had success both as a player and as a manager. "I'm a man of my word and I will be going up there to have my hair cut. I would never back out of something like this. Bradford have done a great job to stay in the Premiership." Rodders said. Chairman Geoffrey Richmond will provide a barber's chair so that our Rodney can have it done in the centre circle at Valley Parade ! The stunt hopes to raise money for Bradford Burns Unit. It seems his efforts to get the World Cup Finals staged in England in 2006 have gone well and due to the system of voting which eliminates the losing country after each round of voting, may just come out in England's favour. Bobby Moore 7 May, 2000 Thanks once again to Ian Corry who has provided two more images which can be found at Billy Bremner and Bobby Charlton John Hollins' (Chelsea) Swansea City, got the better of Rotherham in the Division Three Championship clash. The team went 1-0 up with two minutes to go, and though a last minute penalty did level the scores, it was Swansea who went into the tie only needing a draw. Well done John ! Promoted ! Joe Royle's (Everton) Manchester City have finally returned to the Premiership. Things looked dodgy when Ipswich Town were leading and City were 1-0 down to Blackburn Rovers, but they came back to be 4-1 victors. City go up in the runners-up place Todd Returns Colin Todd (Sunderland) who was so cruelly sacked by Bolton Wanderers earlier in the season, is the new manager at Swindon Town. The yo-yo-like Robins sacked their manager Jimmy Quinn after the team were relegated to Division Two this season.
